Landscaping & Ecology

The Pennyfeathers site benefits from mature trees, including ancient woodland, vegetation and important wildlife corridors. The landscape setting of the site provides an attractive background for designing a high-quality scheme which responds to the strong landscape setting.

Extensive green infrastructure is proposed throughout the site, and through additional planting, the landscape will be further enhanced to provide a strong landscape setting for the new development.

The plans will include enhanced landscaped areas of public open space, parks and areas of re-wilding, which will account for approximately 50% of the overall site. The public open space easily links with both the new development and existing residential areas.

Ecology surveys have been undertaken across the site. Safeguarding measures to protect and enhance wildlife have influenced the design of the proposed development. Careful design of the scheme towards the Monktonmead Brook will, for example, enable rare Bechstein Bats on site to continue to use the site.
